Wagner Figueiredo de Lima and his horse Sereno were best friends, until the Brazilian man’s sudden death in a traffic accident earlier this week. Knowing that the horse meant a world to him, Lima’s brother Wando decided to take Sereno to his owner’s funeral. “It was as if the horse knew what was happening and wanted to say goodbye,” Wando told Globo News.

“[Sereno] began to walk around the coffin, smelling the coffin. Then he neighed,” funeral attendee Kyioshi Abreu commented to The Dodo. “It was a very strong emotion. Everyone who was there was moved. I cried myself when I saw that scene.”

Next thing the horse stopped and placed his head against the coffin, making for a final farewell. “All the way to the cemetery, he would whimper and beat with his hooves on the ground,” says late man’s brother.
This is just one of the examples that animals also mourn. The grieving horse will be staying with Wando’s family as he promised himself to provide Sereno with a loving home. The man added: “This horse was everything to him”.

Heartbreaking Photos Show Six-Year-Old girl Saying Goodbye To Her Dying Pet Dog
These are the heartbreaking pictures of a little girl spending the last moments, with her pet dog who has been by her side since she was born. With tears in her eyes and her head touching his, the youngster can be seen saying goodbye to her bulldog before gently stroking his head, moments before he passed away.

The young girl, Lynn Bakker, from Den Helder in Holland had spent much of her time with her 13-year-old pet Jaden, since the moment she was born. Their friendship was so special, it had even been documented around the world. But at the grand old age of 13, Jaden was deaf, almost blind and unable to walk. Lynn's father Jeffrey took him to a vet and was left with no choice but to have the pet put down, and he died earlier this month, one day after Lynn's birthday.

Mr Bakker said: 'Lynn could do everything with Jaden, he let her do anything, sit on him, put accessories on him which led to some very funny photos. 'But sadly Jaden had become very old, he was 13-and-a-half and barely able to walk any more, we had to put him down.

This is the heartbreaking moment that a dog was allowed to say a final goodbye to her dying owner in hospital.

Ryan Jessen, from California, thought he had a migraine but was hospitalized with a ventricular brain hemorrhage last month and did not recover.

His sister Michelle Jessen has revealed the moment hospital staff allowed Ryan’s pet boxer Mollie to join the rest of the family in saying goodbye.

Posting a video of the emotional moment on Facebook, she wrote: “The hospital did the sweetest thing for us and allowed us to bring my brother’s dog in to “say goodbye” so she’d know why her human never came home. If you knew my brother, he really loved his sweet dog.

“So many people have asked – He thought he had a migraine, but it was a ventricular brain hemorrhage. They think it was brought on by high blood pressure, and there’s speculation that his frequent consumption of energy drinks may have contributed.”

She added: “THANK YOU to everybody for the outpouring of support, but I won’t be responding anymore. We are sincerely touched and humbled by others’ stories, their sharing in our sadness and the kindness of so many people.”

Michelle added a note of reassurance to anyone who might have been concerned for the dog’s future, saying: “Don’t worry about the dog! We’re keeping her!!! She’s part of the family.”

Since his death, Ryan’s organs have been donated, with Michelle posting that a 17-year-old boy from California, whose birthday is on Christmas Day, was set to receive his heart.

She wrote: “As sad as it is to lose Ryan, we know his heart is going to bring so much joy to the family of the recipient.

“I wish Ryan could know what a difference his heart will make for that young man.”

8. Heartbreaking pictures guaranteed to move EVERY pet owner to tears: Woman treats her dying dog to fun-packed final day before taking her to the vets and saying goodbye...

A heartbreaking series of pictures capture the moment a pet owner treated her dying dog to a fun-packed final day before taking the beloved animal to the veterinarian and saying a final goodbye.

An Imgur user shared 26 images of the dog, which appears to be an American pit bull terrier, enjoying some of her favorite things alongside her owner.

Entitled 'Dogs are too amazing to let go, but sometimes it happens and they will forgive you', the first photo shows the dog sitting in the front seat of a car holding her head down low.

'I don't know if she knows or not,' the pet owner wrote over the photo.

The next image shows the dog giving her best expression of sad, puppy dog eyes to the camera, with the caption: 'She trusts me to make a choice. No matter how hard it might be.'

With her head turned back towards the road, the poor dog has closed her eyes in the next photo, appearing to be exhausted.

'But I know she's tired,' the female pet owner wrote over the heartbreaking photo.

The next snap shows the sweet dog sticking her head out of the window during the car trip.

'The stairs are hard. The hills are mountains. The pills don't work,' the pet owner wrote over the photo.

'But if I have to make that choice. Then let's make the last day the best one yet,' she said in two photos of the dog who still looks sad in the eyes.

In making the dog's last day the best, the owner first treats her to some pampering and captured a few images of her being washed at a local Pet Smart store.

'Aroma therapy to make you relax and feel amazing too,' her owner wrote over an image of her all soapy with suds.

After receiving treatment, the dog had a heart-shaped 'beauty mark' put onto her coat for a little decoration.

Next up, it was time for a meal in the shape of a McDonald's cheeseburger.

'One last delicious meal,' the pet owner wrote over one of the images showing her dog chowing down on what appears to be a cheeseburger from the fast food restaurant.

The next photo shows a young boy and girl as they say their goodbyes to the dog who appears even sadder at the prospect of leaving them.

But the dog cheers up in the next few images, as she sports a pink bandanna around her neck while playing with an old friend - another dog.

The two are seen smiling as they sit and stand next to each other for the final time.

She's treated to a little more pampering while 'enjoying the cool air' outside her owner paints her nails with a pink colored polish to match the pink bandanna.

'She's my pretty old girl,' the owner captioned an image of her dog all dolled up.

The second to last photo in the series shows the dog in the car with owner, as they ride to the vet clinic.
And the last photo is heartbreaking. The owner can be seen tightly hugging the dog as its life slips away.
The photo series coincides with National Dog Day, celebrated August 26 in the United States.

9.  Cat appears to 'hold hands' with owners on final trip to vet

A precious cat named Little Andrew captured hundreds of feline-loving hearts across the internet recently, when a touching photo of the kitty, who appears to be a Russian blue, showed his paw “holding” his owners’ hands.

His guardian, Reddit user “abherna3," captioned the photo on the popular online message board: “He held our hands on his last trip to the vet. Little Andrew was much stronger than his mom and I.” The user responded to the outpouring of sympathy from other Reddit feline aficionados after the post went viral.

The cat’s loving “parent” also shared that the 15 1/2-year-old pet "loved everyone," but had gotten sick over the past year. "He purred every day of his life and when he lost that, I knew it was time," wrote abherna3. "Always sad to lose a friend. Sorry for everybody else's losses as well.”

Reddit readers responded in kind. “Oh man, that made me tear up, rest in peace little kitty," wrote one commenter. “This just made me cry," wrote another. "What a touching moment. Condolences to you and your family.”
